From Planning to Plate: Lisa Shannon’s Wedding at Powerscourt

For Lisa Shannon, Powerscourt was always more than a beautiful place to get married.

Having grown up in Greystones, she spent years visiting the house and gardens with her family. Her mum, who sadly passed away 13 years ago, always told Lisa she should get married there one day.

“We used to come up here for coffees and walk around the gardens. There’s even a photo of my mum and dad here years ago, so there was always a real connection to Powerscourt for me. I know she would have been delighted to see us get married here.”

As one of Ireland’s leading bridal makeup artists, Lisa has also spent years travelling to weddings and working in hundreds of venues in Ireland and around the world. After seeing so many, Powerscourt House and Estate still felt incredibly special.

“I’ve been lucky enough to work in so many beautiful wedding venues, but there is just something about Powerscourt. The house, the gardens, the setting. It feels special from the minute you arrive.”

Planning the day

Lisa wanted the wedding to feel timeless, working with the character of the house rather than trying to transform it.

“The room is divine. All of the coving, the pillars and the detail are so beautiful already. Even the detailing on my dress felt like it belonged in the room.”

Food was another huge part of the day. Lisa and Eoin wanted a menu that felt special but that their guests would genuinely enjoy.

The tasting brought a few surprises, including a goat’s cheese starter that converted a self-confessed goat’s cheese sceptic and a lamb dish that immediately made the final menu.

“The food was incredible. We wanted it to feel special, but we also wanted everyone to really enjoy it. The lamb was honestly one of the best things we’ve ever tasted.”

Bringing it all together

One of the biggest benefits of working with FEAST was having a team who knew Powerscourt inside out.

From the menu to trusted suppliers and all the little details in between, the team had suggestions and recommendations throughout the planning process.

“They had so many suggestions that we never would have thought of ourselves. They know the house, they know the suppliers and they know what works. It made bringing everything together feel so easy.”

As the wedding got closer, Lisa felt completely comfortable handing things over.

“There was constant communication throughout. By the time the wedding came around, I completely trusted the team. I knew everything was being looked after and I could just enjoy it.”

The best day of their lives

And then the day arrived.

The house, the food, the room and all those months of planning came together.

Speaking to Lisa afterwards, there was no hesitation. The day had been everything she and Eoin hoped for and more.

“It was absolutely amazing. Genuinely the best day of our lives. Everything felt seamless, the food was incredible and our guests were raving about it. We could just enjoy ourselves and take it all in.”

For Lisa, getting married at Powerscourt also brought the story full circle. A place she had visited with her mum as a child became the place where she and Eoin had the opportunity to celebrate their marriage.

“I couldn’t have picked a better place. It was everything we wanted it to be. I’d do it all over again.”
