Annabel & Brian

Our thanks to Annabel and Brian for sharing their wonderful story…

“Our original plan was to get married at a spectacular venue on the Amalfi coast in Italy in June 2020 with over 200 guests; we spent over a year planning the event. Last March, as we watched events unfold in Italy and across the world, we slowly realised that we’d have to cancel our dream wedding and were completely heartbroken.

We really wanted to get married that summer so we had to scramble to come up with a Plan B, in Ireland. We chose the Powerscourt Estate mostly due to the fact that Orlaith and the Powerscourt gang were so easy and lovely to deal with. Orlaith, who works for Feast catering, was our unofficial wedding planner/counsellor/bestie and was always available for a call. We had no idea what government restrictions would be in place at the time but Orlaith came up with creative plans for every potential outcome.

In the end, we were limited to 50 guests, which we were initially devastated about. We were really torn between going ahead without a lot of our friends and family present, or the alternative of postponing indefinitely.

Despite all our worries and reservations, we had the most incredible day from start to finish and we’re so happy we went ahead with the wedding. On a gorgeous sunny day, we got married in the beautiful Donnybrook church and had a magical reception at Powerscourt Estate, surrounded by our loved ones. The views of the gardens and the Sugar Loaf rivalled the Amalfi coast that day! The staff at Powerscourt went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect for us - nothing was too much trouble. Our reception felt very intimate and special and we got to spend lots of time with our guests- something we likely wouldn’t have been able to do with a big wedding. It was such a happy, fun-filled day and all of our guests were able to let loose and enjoy themselves on our special day. It was like a covid ceasefire!

We received so many compliments on the food - it was just amazing. Ultimately, as for most people, 2020 upended our plans. Despite that, we couldn’t be happier that we went ahead with our wedding at the Powerscourt Estate. We truly had the most wonderful weekend and we’d highly recommend a smaller wedding to everyone.

We’re sad that many of our friends and family couldn’t attend but they’ve all been so understanding and supportive- we can’t get over their generosity and kindness. We know we’ll celebrate with them all at some point in the future when it’s safe to do so. We’ll be milking our wedding for years to come!!!
